We brought two action-packed weekends and three disciplines, with an incredible community response to mark the successful launch of the South Coast’s newest adventure sports series.

 

The inaugural South Coast Adrenaline Series Winter Series has officially come to a close, and what a way it has been to launch a brand-new adventure sports series on the KZN South Coast.

 

Across two action-packed weekends in July, participants took on mountain biking, trail running and obstacle course racing, with events held at two of the South Coast’s most spectacular locations; Lake Eland Game Reserve and T.O. Strand in Leisure Bay.

 

The series was created with a simple goal. To bring exciting, challenging and accessible adventure events back to the South Coast, while showcasing the incredible outdoor spaces the region has to offer.

 

We kicked off the Winter Series on 11 and 12 July at Lake Eland Game Reserve, where mountain bikers and trail runners took to the trails for a weekend of adrenaline, adventure and spectacular scenery.

 

With challenging terrain, flowing trails and the possibility of encountering some of the reserve’s wildlife along the way, Lake Eland provided the perfect setting for the opening weekend. Participants could choose their challenge and experience the trails at their own pace, whether they were chasing a podium position, testing their limits or simply enjoying an adventure outdoors. 

 

The atmosphere throughout the weekend was exactly what the series set out to create, competitive when it needed to be, but filled with encouragement, camaraderie and plenty of smiles.

 

The following weekend, the action moved to T.O. Strand in Leisure Bay for the Dune to Dirt Obstacle Course Race.

 

Set across the beach and dry forest surroundings, the course challenged participants with a series of scaffolding and wooden obstacles designed to test strength, agility, determination and teamwork.

 

The team competition produced some memorable performances, with Charlie’s Angels claiming first place, followed by Dune Raiders in second and Amazonians in third.

 

But once again, the real highlight was seeing participants of different ages and abilities taking on the challenge and supporting one another along the way.

 

More Than Just a Race

From the very beginning, the South Coast Adrenaline Series was intended to be about more than racing.

 

It was about creating experiences.

 

It was about giving people a reason to get outdoors, discover new places, challenge themselves and spend time with friends and family.

 

It was also about showcasing the South Coast as a destination capable of hosting exciting adventure and sporting events.

 

“We wanted to bring something different to the South Coast. Events that are challenging, exciting and, most importantly, fun. Seeing people getting involved, supporting one another and enjoying the experience is exactly what we hoped the series would achieve.” said SCAS director, Anesh Sooklal.
